where is Mazda made

For more than a century, Mazda has been a trusted automaker for drivers around the world, but you may not know where Mazda is made. Mazda is a distinctly Japanese automaker, but over time, the brand has been influenced by European sports cars and North American muscle.

Mazda is headquartered in Hiroshima, Japan, but many of its impressive vehicles are made right here in the United States.

Mazda Models Made in Japan and North America

Most Mazda vehicles are manufactured in the company’s home country, built at one of three manufacturing facilities in Japan. In addition to two facilities in the headquarter city of Hiroshima, there is a third manufacturing site in Hofu, Japan.

  • Mazda5 Minivan, Mazda CX-5, MX-5 Roadster, and RX-8 models (not all of which are available in the USA) are made at the Hiroshima facility in the Miyoshi ward. This is where most performance Mazda models are produced.
  • Mazda3 models are constructed at the production facility in Hofu but the engine and transmission production is handled by the two Hiroshima plants.
  • Mazda6 models were produced at the Hofu plant until they were discontinued this year, but until 2012, they were manufactured in the U.S. at the Flat Rock Assembly Plant near Detroit, Michigan.
  • The rest of the Mazda lineup is manufactured between the three Japan-based plants. Some Mazda3 models are made for North America at facilities in Salamanca, Mexico.

Mazda is truly a Japanese automaker with a long reputation for quality and reliability. But over time, Mazda vehicles have been inspired both by Japanese innovation as well as classic Detroit toughness, making them ideal for drivers around the world.
