What Does MAZDA Mean?

November 11th, 2024 by

El Dorado Mazda customers know what makes this brand special: responsive performance, stunning design, and a drive like nothing else. But what does Mazda mean as a word? Find out more about the philosophy of this storied brand here, or chat with one of our dealers about it today.

What Does MAZDA Mean?

Mazda design has always been inspired by something beyond the automobile. While the name is partially a reference to the surname of its founder, Jurijo Matsuda, it also is inspired by Ahura Mazda, the Zoroastrian god of harmony and balance. This points to this brand’s history of balancing Western and Eastern influences, both in aesthetic design and in performance.

Balanced Design

Modern Mazda cars are influenced by the Kodo philosophy of design, created by Ikuo Maeda, head of the Mazda design department. Kodo design focuses on producing vehicles that always look ready to leap into motion, combining the stillness of a luxurious interior with the power of a dominant drive. The unified design philosophy can be seen across our lineup, creating an allure you can’t find anywhere else.

Stand Out Anywhere

Distinctive Mazda design has led to stand-out vehicles of all types, from our compact sedans to full-sized SUVs. For many drivers, the Mazda MX-5 Miata has come to stand for this type of focus, with its stylish design that reinvigorated the roadster market. Our new vehicles combine the capability for modern driving, including cutting-edge infotainment systems, with this classic spirit of balanced design.
