1986 MAZDA 323

In the 1980s, Mazda was still mostly associated with the Wankel rotary engine, a smooth, capable motor that defined early Mazda driving. The 1986 Mazda 323 was part of the earliest experiments in building a Mazda car for the Western market, with a fuel-injected engine and front-wheel power. This sedan was more powerful than its predecessors, but standards were lower in the 1980s: the powertrain produced just 82 horsepower.

2004 MAZDA3

With its now-classic new name and a bigger, roomier design, the 2004 Mazda3 is the beginning of what drivers recognize as the modern model. This model, available as a sedan or a hatchback, now featured up to a dominant 160 horsepower and could leave competitors’ cars in the dust. Not satisfied with one dynamic model, Mazda also created the 2007 Mazdaspeed3, an aggressive sports car that had an incredible 263 horsepower under the hood.
